InnerCity Weightlifting Event!

Join BHCHP’s Emerging Leaders Board for a virtual workout with InnerCity Weightlifting!

Saturday, June 19 at 9:30am EST via Zoom

The workout is free.  A $10 donation is suggested.  The proceeds from this event will be split between Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program and InnerCity Weightlifting

In recognition of Juneteenth and honoring the unique joys and struggles of the Black experience in America, we have partnered with InnerCity Weightlifting which seeks to reduce gun violence by amplifying the voice and agency of the people most impacted by mass incarceration and systemic racism. Through case management and careers in and beyond personal training, ICW collaborates with proven-risk young men to flip power dynamics and bridge social capital.

More About ICW

ICW isn’t your typical gym or traditional nonprofit. It’s a movement rooted in the bond of fitness and powered by the love of community.  ICW provides more than just career opportunities for people participating in our program and high-quality service for our corporate and personal training clients. ICW provides the bridge between the two that gives people a personal stake in each other's lives and leads to true social and racial equity.  

 

Description of Workout

ICW offers full body mobility, strength, and conditioning circuit workouts that are inclusive to everyone whether you’re brand new to fitness or a seasoned athlete!  No equipment required for the virtual workout.

 

Music: Playing music doesn’t always translate over Zoom so if you are someone that likes to work out with music bumping, have your speaker ready. If you have Spotify, here is a link to a clean playlist curated by one of ICW's Trainers!

 

Video: Having your camera on really helps instructors provide a better, injury free experience. It allows them to correct form, motivate, and give modifications to those who need them. With that said, it is of course still completely optional.

 

Workout Inclusivity: ICW prides ourselves on making the workouts accessible to all fitness levels! ICW trainers are great at giving multiple options for every movement so everyone can feel like they're being challenged but also able to finish. ICW loves when people ask trainers questions or for ways to modify if they happen to leave that out.
