Job summary: 

This position will serve as a backup for the Patient Finance Manager so as to guarantee continuity of business by securing the department’s leadership capacity. The Patient Billing Supervisor will amass the necessary knowledge and information to serve as the Patient Finance Manager in the latter’s absence and/or assist the Patient Finance Manager with the more complex tasks pertaining to the department’s operations and management.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Assume authority and responsibility of directing, supporting and supervising the billing team in the absence of the Patient Finance Manager
• Assume administrative authority over the Practice Management System in the absence of the Patient Finance Manager
• Assist the Patient Finance Manager with data analysis and preparation for Federal and State Reporting purposes. The Billing Supervisor will assume responsibility of these reports in the Manager’s absence
• Provide project prioritization, guidance and support to the Billing Team Lead on a daily basis. The Billing Supervisor will work closely with the Team Lead to ensure departmental goals are met
• Responsible for the timely and accurate computation of the Accounts Receivables, Visits reports and other billing based reports on a monthly basis
• Collaborates with the Patient Finance Manager to develop departmental goals and policies
• Assist the Patient Finance Manager with the daily management of the department ‘s operations by implementing unit priorities as set by/with the manager
• Recommend daily workflow changes when appropriate so as to ensure that all efforts are contributing the department’s goals
• Ensure department deadlines are met by re-arranging and/or allocating staff resources when necessary; to this end, the Billing supervisor will ensure continuous adequate staffing in the department at all times
• Implement and monitor department operations strategies from the Patient Finance Manager on a daily basis to ensure positive results by recommending necessary changes when appropriate
• Assist the Patient Finance Manager with managing the team’s productivity and work accuracy by investigating work trends and liaising with the Patient Finance Manager and/or Billing Team Lead to find solutions and/or improvements to outstanding issues
• Maintain a working knowledge of budgeting and auditing activities and assist the Patient Finance Manager when needed
• Complete special projects as assigned by the Patient Finance Manager
• Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or modified to meet the department’s or Program’s needs at the discretion of the Patient Finance Manager or Chief Financial Officer

Qualifications and Requirements: 

Skills and Competencies:
• High School diploma or equivalent with 4 years of relevant work experience is required, Bachelor’s degree in Finance with 2 years or more of comprehensive medical billing experience preferred
• Strong understanding of Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel and Access is required
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills is required
• Good oral and written communication skills is required
• Working knowledge of Business Intelligence applications like Crystal Reports
• Attention to detail and ability to understand task interrelations is required
• Ability to multi-task independently in a productive manner is required
• Ability to function productively as part of a diverse team is required
• Ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing field is required

Physical and Mental Requirements:
• Duties involve little or no physical effort
• Able to sit at work station for an 8 hour day, 5 days a week
• Able to work on a computer for long time periods
