2025 is a special year for Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) as we celebrate our 40th anniversary. Founded in 1985, the mission of BHCHP is to provide or assure access to the highest quality health care for all individuals and families experiencing homelessness in our community.

As part of our #40Years40Voices social media campaign, do check out this inspiring story of Marcia Smith-Hutton, a Brookline concert pianist turned social worker who left a moving bequest gift to BHCHP. Marcia was born blind from birth but that didn’t stop her from living a life full of adventure, joy, and connection.

Brandon Leung is one of countless young professionals who feel inspired by BHCHP’s mission to care for the underserved and who have worked, interned, or volunteered with us. He spent five years in various staff roles at the program before going to medical school. This summer, he’ll be starting his general adult psychiatry residency at the University of Vermont, and we wish him the best on this next adventure!
Believe it or not, Brandon`s been part of our program way before his 5-year stint. He was 6 months old when his mom Agnes Leung, our Chief Financial Officer, joined BHCHP. Long story short, Agnes is still here at the program, deftly leading our finance team and the entire organization’s financial wellbeing.
We hope this mother-son story as part of #40Years40Voices adds some cheer and warmth to your day, as it does to ours! We’re incredibly fortunate to have many people like Brandon and Agnes in our corner with amazing stories as to why they chose BHCHP and our patients. More to come in the weeks and months ahead!
Each year, we care for 11,000 unhoused patients in Boston and serving these individuals and families with the utmost dignity and compassion is central to BHCHP’s mission.

BHCHP is an integrated team of over 600 medical and behavioral health staff, social service providers, and support staff committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality health care for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Boston and beyond.
At our 30+ clinic sites in shelters and hospitals, our medical respite program, and on the streets, we provide medical care, behavioral health care, youth and family services, and case management to 11,000 individuals (adults and children) every year.
