Jean Yawkey Place

Jean Yawkey Place unites the core elements of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program’s model of care under one roof for the first time in our 23 year history.  The four-story, 77,653 square-foot structure was built in 1933 and it is located at the center of our service area, on the corner of Mass Ave and Albany Street on the Boston Medical Center campus.  In tribute to a $5,000,000 building renovation gift from the Yawkey Foundation, the new facility is named “Jean Yawkey Place.”

More than just a building, Jean Yawkey Place integrates the following elements of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program’s services:

  • An ambulatory clinic
  • Inpatient medical respite care
  • An outpatient dental clinic
  • Outpatient mental health services
  • Family services
  • A pharmacy
  • A center for research and evaluation
  • Administrative and program offices
  • Central meeting spaces

With the opening of Jean Yawkey Place, Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program expands our flagship ambulatory clinic and our inpatient respite program; enhances the integration of our medical, mental health and oral health disciplines in keeping with “best practice” models; and expands our presence within Boston for the sub-specialty of homeless health care and the unique needs of our patients.

Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program is a national model for compassionate and cost-effective health care for Boston’s most vulnerable.  Support for Jean Yawkey Place is about more than developing a building; it is about investing in a vision and model of care that provides compassionate, professional care along with immeasurable savings in both dignity and dollars.
