The Red Sox Foundation and NESN are teaming up with BHCHP for the seventh year to help collect new white athletic socks at Fenway Park!
Fans are asked to bring packages of new white socks to the Red Sox vs. Clevelaand Indians games on Saturday May 25th and Sunday May 26th. Volunteers will be collecting the socks at each Fenway Park gate before and throughout the first few innings of the games. Doctors and nurses from BHCHP will distribute the socks to patients they care for on the streets, park benches and in shelters across Greater Boston.
Red Sox fans who have tickets for either of the these home games can give their packages to volunteers at any of the gates upon entering Fenway.
Why Socks?
Access to shoes and socks is often limited for the homeless men and women living in shelters and on the streets. Rain-soaked feet, ill-fitting shoes, constant standing and diseases like diabetes take their toll on the feet of homeless people. Every day, BHCHP's nurses and physicians treat a huge range of foot ailments - from trench foot to skin infections, from frostbite to nail diseases. The best way to prevent such conditions is to keep feet clean and dry – very difficult if you spend your days outside.
Clean, white socks are a staple of homeless health care and make a real difference in the lives of our patients and the quality of care that we can provide.
BHCHP would like to thank Gentle Giant Moving Company
for partnering with us again this year
