BHCHP's "One Size Fits All" Annual Sock Drive

BHCHP invites businesses, faith groups, schools and colleges, along with any other community organizations to participate in our 8th annual Sock Drive by collecting new white socks. Our doctors, nurses and case managers will distribute socks collected to the homeless men and women we care for in greater Boston. Your support can help us exceed last year's total and get even more socks out to those we serve.

Why Socks?
Access to shoes and socks is often limited for the homeless men and women living in shelters and on the streets. Rain-soaked feet, ill-fitting shoes, constant standing and diseases like diabetes take their toll on the feet of homeless people. Every day, BHCHP's nurses and physicians treat a huge range of foot ailments - from trench foot to skin infections, from frostbite to nail diseases.  The best way to prevent such conditions is to keep feet clean and dry - very difficult if you spend your days outside.

Clean, white socks are a staple of homeless health care and you can help make a real difference in the lives of our patients and the quality of care that we can provide.

One Step Further
Men and women in shelters need "shower shoes" to help prevent the spread of athlete's foot and other infections in public showers. Please consider expanding your drive to include new rubber flip flops for adults.

How to Join Our Cause

  • Register for the drive by clicking "Join this Drive". Join the momentum of our traditional March sock drive or organize a drive anytime during 2012 - we need socks year round!
  • Download Sock Drive materials or request them by mail, including the Welcome & Suggestions letter—this has a lot of great ideas for making your drive a success!
  • Pick up your collection boxes at BHCHP, if you need some
  • Begin your collection!
  • Attend our Sock Drive Delivery on Friday, April 6th, anytime from 1-5pm.
We'll be offering refreshments, videos, and tours of our largest location, Jean Yawkey Place, all while constructing a huge pile of the socks you've collected! Deliver your socks, learn about our work, and meet other participants in one afternoon!
