BHCHP Wins the 2009 Community Partnership Award

Mutual of America selects one nonprofit organization in the nation each year to highlight the important contributions that nonprofit organizations, in partnership with public, private and other social sector organizations, make to society.
In 2009, the Community Partnership Award was given to Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program for its Medical Respite Program, The Barbara McInnis House. It is a national model for providing 24-hour recuperative care to homeless patients.

BHCHP’s medical respite program partners with both Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Medical Center, as well as more than 80 shelters and outreach sites which include Pine Street Inn, St. Francis House, New England Center for Homeless Veterans, Project Hope and two shelters operated by the city of Boston: Long Island Shelter and Woods-Mullen Shelter.

Medical respite care is a key part of BHCHP’s service delivery model and through strong partnerships, dedicated staff and expanded space, it continues to meet the medical needs of those most in need in the community. Collaboration among our partners is vital to providing our patients with medical respite care. The Mutual of America Community Partnership Award recognizes all our partners for their role in making BHCHP’s medical respite program a success.

The Mutual of America Community Partnership Award recognizes outstanding nonprofit organizations that have shown exemplary leadership by facilitating partnerships with public, private or social sector leaders who are working together as equal partners to build a cohesive community that serves as a model for collaborating with others for the greater good.
