Red Sox Slugger David Ortiz Kicks Off Nonprofit's Boston Red Sox star David "Big Papi" Ortiz and his wife Tiffany have donated their bed, with the headboard autographed by the slugger, to Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP). On September 17, the nonprofit will begin the auction of the king-sized bed, as part of its League of Our Own campaign, the final leg of its $42 million capital campaign. The money is funding the organization’s new home in the South End, Jean Yawkey Place. Founded in 1985, BHCHP has evolved into the largest and most comprehensive health care for the homeless program in the country, delivering services to more than 11,000 homeless men, women and children a year at more than 80 shelters and sites including the Pine Street Inn, St. Francis House and New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans.BHCHP’s Jean Yawkey Place, which houses many of the organization’s services, is the only health care facility in the country specifically built to meet the unique medical needs of homeless patients.
