An Explanation of Key Services Primary Care: BHCHP employs doctors, nurses and other staff who provide a wide array of primary care and urgent health services. Our largest sites include three clinics based in hospitals, as well as several large clinics in homeless shelters. In 2005, BHCHP served almost 10,000 patients in more than 70,000 outpatient medical, dental and mental health encounters. Click here for a list of our major clinics. At these locations, our staff perform medical exams, prescribe medications and order lab tests. They can provide complete women's health care, and can make referrals to specialists. We also provide primary care services at our smaller sites. However, some of these locations have a more limited capacity. HIV Services: Care for patients with HIV occurs at all of our sites. However, the majority of HIV-related care takes place at our clinic at Boston Medical Center. There, a dedicated team of providers focuses on the multiple needs of patients with HIV. The team is made up of doctors, nurses, a physician assistant, case managers and mental health staff. HIV counseling and testing takes place at many area family and adult shelters. Our staff can also arrange to meet people at other sites as needed. Family Services: BHCHP provides care in over 25 family and domestic violence shelters. Our Family Team has doctors, nurses, therapists and case managers, who provide a wide range of services to infants, older children and parents. The Family Team also works hard to support homeless women who are pregnant. Respite Care - The Barbara McInnis House The Barbara McInnis House provides care for homeless adults who are too sick to stay in shelters or on the street, but not in need of hospital care. Nursing care is provided round-the-clock. Patients are also seen by a doctor or nurse practitioner on a daily basis. Patients at the McInnis House can also receive mental health and dental services, as well as referrals for special needs. |
